Community Classes

LIT classes are open to everyone, regardless of ability. All classes at LIT are designed to help give participants the skill sets to be able to succeed in the life activity of their choice, including employment. The classes will also give participants regular opportunities to gain practical experience by engaging directly with the community at large.

Life & Employment Skills Practicum:
"Internship" will provide participants the opportunity to simulate many of the tasks they will undertake in life and in the workplace by working along each other under the supervision of the LIT program staff. In the internship, participants will be able to learn about and practice basic life skills (and workplace necessities) such as arriving on time, following a schedule, taking direction and criticism, task completion, problem-solving, relations with others/coworkers and much more. Participants will be performing tasks that will require the development and practice of these skills.

*Participants will be shown how many of these skills apply to both their daily lives and work.

In addition, during this process participants will be exposed to a variety of skill sets related to living independently and succeeding in places of employment. Examples of some skills that participants may be exposed to: Technology (email management, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, equipment management, document creation, social media), Culinary (kitchen safety, kitchen tools, following recipes, inventory, cost control, ordering), Art (graphics creation, visual representations/advertising, creating product labels & packaging)
